What were your dreams in founding the society?

To establish a collaborative group to support one another, and share studio and exhibition space

Did you ever think it would last this long?

Absolutely not! It grew into something much larger than I imagined.

If you were blowing out the sixteen candles on the society's birthday cake, what would you be wishing for?

I would wish for the continued success of the society.

What advice would you give artists just emerging from ACAD today?

To stick to your hopes and dreams and keep creating - remain open to ways that "art" can become a career. My BFA was a great foundation for future studies; the inquiry focused model of art school, and the independent nature of research have proven especially useful.

What would you like viewers to know about your current work?

Although I am not able to spend time in a studio creating art right now, I feel that lessons learned at ACAD have enriched me as a person and infuse creativity into all aspects of my life. When I was first approached with the invitation to participate in this show, my instinct was to decline. I am presently teaching full-time while completing a Master of Counselling degree (also full-time) which places limitations on my time to create art. The gentle nudging of Jane and my talented student teacher Jahan persuaded me to contribute. The photo of me teaching is representative of how I spend my days, and I truly enjoy watching students explore their creativity. I have been placed into a counselling position which will begin in September, and I'm looking forward to another new adventure. I'm sure art will find its way into my counselling practice as well.
