(The following text is from a phone interview with Wendy Grove, conducted May 18, 2010)

What were your dreams in founding the society?

To have a place to work with kindred spirits

Did you ever think it would last this long?

It's hard to say. We were such a strong group... we had strong bylaws... Maybe I am not too surprised, given such a strong foundation...

If you were blowing out the candles on the society's birthday cake, what would you be wishing for?

Wishing to begin painting again.

Where were you at as an artist when you made this work?

I had already graduated in 1993. The short wide painting was the result of an artist workshop in the boreal forest—exploring new landscapes. The tall painting was a commission for a lady who was going blind. She needed something with a lot of contrast. My style is impressionistic, using large brushes. My influence was being in the forest all the time at equestrian campsites with my husband and two children. My main goal was to give the feeling of being surrounded by forest.

What advice would you give to artists emerging from ACAD today?

Try to keep your dream alive

What would you like viewers to know about the work shown?

There's not really anything I'd like them to know, just to be able to appreciate the images and take what they need from them.
